Liron Afriat received her BA in Tel-Aviv university and her MA in the University of Tokyo. Her research interests revolve around the consumption habits of young Japanese women, particularly those who "breathe" and consume popular Japanese culture on a regular basis. Her MA thesis entails ethnographic research which explores the work-life balance of female Japanese cosplayers. She is also one of the original founders and the first chairperson of AMAI (Anime Manga Association of Israel), an NPO dedicated to spreading Japanese culture in Israel.
